Shirburn Castle is a moated, brick castle in Oxfordshire, built around 1378 for Warin de Lisle and later remodified by the Earls of Macclesfield. Its corner towers rise above rendered walls, while the surrounding gardens give it the air of a private dream rather than a public monument. The family lived there until 2004, and much of its cherished collection later scattered at auction, leaving behind a house that still feels occupied by memory.
