Belstane is a possible medieval tower house near Carluke, first recorded in 1312 when Robert the Bruce granted the manor to Ellen de Quarantly. It changed hands among Livingstones, Maxwells, Lindsays and Douglases, and in 1585 Hay of Yester attacked the castle while Livingstone dodged lead flying through its window apertures. The women inside were maltreated, a brutality that makes the stone sound less like a monument and more like a trap.

Scotland's National Record of the Historic Environment records Belstane as Tower House (medieval)(possible). The official map says its point is accurate as follows: NGR given to the nearest 100m. The record does not by itself mean that the public may enter the place.
