Castledykes holds a possible Neolithic or Bronze Age stone row beside the remains of Dumfries Castle, where Robert the Bruce and James Douglas are said to have raised a standard in 1306. The old ditched mound still lies beneath the park, while the stones mark an earlier time when people may have measured the sky or guarded a boundary now forgotten.
Scotland's National Record of the Historic Environment records Castledykes as Stone Row (neolithic) - (bronze Age)(possible). The official map says its point is accurate as follows: NGR given to the nearest 10m. The record does not by itself mean that the public may enter the place.
