Castledykes and Loudoun Hill mark a Roman road stretching from Peebles toward Irvine. The route cut across South Lanarkshire during the Roman occupation, linking settlements and moving soldiers or goods through land that now feels remote. Stones may still lie buried beneath grass, waiting for rain to reveal them.
