Roman hands cut stone at Castledykes and laid a road toward Loudoun Hill, leaving shallow scars that rain still shadows on the South Lanarkshire ground. The quarry pits and cropmarks suggest a busy military or trading route, yet the exact destination remains uncertain. People may have walked that path with packhorses, tools or fear, but only the soil remembers their weight.
