No castle wall stands at Castledykes now, only a faint cropmark and a truncated ditched mound beside the River Nith. That absence makes the place sharper, because the story given to it is Robert the Bruce raising his standard on 10th February 1306 after Dumfries Castle changed hands. The land has been landscaped until its original layout disappeared, yet the mound still breaks the grass like a forgotten bone.
Scotland's National Record of the Historic Environment records Castledykes as Cropmark (period Unknown)(possible). The official map says its point is accurate as follows: NGR given to the nearest 10m. The record does not by itself mean that the public may enter the place.
