Mauldslie Castle stood in Dalserf until 1935, when the mansion was demolished and the estate sold in forty lots. It began as a sixteenth-century tower house, became a Robert Adam baronial home in 1792, and was extended by David Bryce after 1850. James Hozier hosted King George V and Mary of Teck there in July 1914, but he died without issue in 1929, leaving the grand house exposed to the ordinary machinery of loss.

Mauldslie Castle was built in the 14th century by the Maxwell family, a powerful Scottish noble clan. It is remembered for its strategic importance in the defense of the southern borders of Scotland during the medieval period.
