Thornbury Castle hides a medieval fortified house and a sixteenth-century privy garden beneath its grass. The burial is not loss but patience, for the stones still hold their shape under the soil. A person walking above may never know that rooms and gardens wait below, complete in darkness, unchanged since the last living hand closed their doors.

Thornbury Castle was originally built by the Berkeley family in the 13th century and later expanded by the Talbot family in the 15th century. It is historically significant as the site where King Charles I was executed in 1649 following the English Civil War.
