Ardstinchar Castle was a wedge-shaped stone fortress built by Hugh Kennedy of Ardstinchar in the mid-15th century, standing on a rocky hill above the River Stinchar. Mary, Queen of Scots stayed there in 1563 and likely strolled the half turret walkway that still remains. The castle was demolished in the 1770s, its stones quarried to build a bridge and local houses, leaving only the keep ruins behind.
