Hopton Castle is a Norman motte-and-bailey fortress where a stone keep still stands upon its artificial mound, overlooking the Welsh borderlands. The outer bailey stretched north-west toward Park Cottage, giving the garrison room to breathe, store grain and watch for trouble. Men likely lived inside that rough circle, hearing horses stamp and dogs bark while they waited for the next order. What is left is not a ruin but a shape: a mound, a keep and a boundary drawn across living land.

The National Heritage List for England records Hopton Castle tower keep castle with outer bailey 150m north west of Park Cottage as a scheduled monument. The saved point comes from the centre supplied by the official record. Listing does not by itself mean that the public may enter the place.

Hopton Castle was built in the 14th century by the de Hopton family, a prominent local landholding family in the area. It is remembered as an example of a medieval tower keep castle and is significant for its historical and architectural value in the region.
