Scotland's National Record of the Historic Environment records Unst, Helliers Water as Clearance Cairn (period Unassigned). The official map says its point is accurate as follows: NGR given to the nearest 100m. The record does not by itself mean that the public may enter the place.

Clearance cairn, likely dating to the Neolithic or Bronze Age. These cairns were often created by clearing stones from fields for agriculture and may have had ritual or territorial significance.
