In 1801, a famous holy well stood in Straboe, drawing worship and wonder, but by the late 1830s John O'Donovan searched the parish and found no trace of it at all. The water may have vanished, the stones buried, or the name forgotten, yet the well's sudden disappearance suggests it gave itself back to the earth rather than surrendering to men.

When Sir Charles Coote wrote his 'General View of Agriculture and Manufactures of the Queen's County' in 1801, there was a famous well in the parish of Straboe, however by by the late 1830's John O'Donovan was unable to find any trace of this well within the parish of Straboe.
