What is recorded here
In pasture, encompassing a low rise; marsh and bog lie to SW, S and E. A raised D-shaped area (dims. c. 60m NE-SW) defined by a gapped earthen bank (Wth c. 3m; ext. H 0.5m) N-ESE and by a slight scarp along the straight SW side (L c. 70m NW-SE). A flat-bottomed external fosse (Wth 5m; D 0.4m) is evident NW-SE. The interior slopes down gently in all directions from the centre. Foundations of a drystone wall (Wth 1.2m; L 12.2m NE-SW) with a gap (Wth 3m), were noted in the N half of the interior with an earthen bank (L 11m; Wth 2m) extending to SE from its SW end. Indicated on the 1838 OS 6-inch map as an oval enclosure (diam. c. 100m NE-SW; c. 80m NW-SE) with trees inside the perimeter.
The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Sligo' compiled by Ursula Egan, Elizabeth Byrne, Mary Sleeman with Sheila Ronan and Connie Murphy (Dublin Stationery Office, 2005).
