Salenside Tower was a medieval tower house on the Ale Water near Ashkirk, but no stone or beam remains for anyone to touch. Salenside Farm and Salenside Cottage still occupy the same valley, carrying the name forward while the tower itself has vanished into soil and memory. The loss is not a gap in the story; it is the story. A tower proud enough to stand beside a living village could also be proud enough to disappear when it stopped being needed.
