Fast Castle is a ruined coastal fortress in Berwickshire where cliffs up to 45 metres high forced every attacker onto a single drawbridge. George Home, 4th Lord Home rebuilt it by 1522 after the earlier structure fell during the chaos following Flodden. The Home family later hosted Margaret Tudor in 1503 while she travelled to marry James IV, placing this remote sea-cliff seat directly inside the largest marriage and succession crises of the age.
