Neidpath Castle is an L-plan tower house overlooking the River Tweed near Peebles, built by Simon Fraser between 1263 and 1266 and later remodelled by the Hay family. Mary, Queen of Scots visited in 1563, and the castle survived Cromwell's invasion before passing through several noble houses. By the late 1700s neglect had collapsed its upper rooms, yet the ruin still stands as a wedding venue and filming location, witnessed by Wordsworth and Scott in 1803.
