Ferneycastle is a later Prehistoric enclosed settlement and roundhouse in the Scottish Borders. It is not a castle at all, but a small domestic place where people lived, kept fire light and shared the risks of open land. The name may have come later, yet the earthworks still belong to the humans who first shaped them.
Scotland's National Record of the Historic Environment records Ferneycastle as Enclosed Settlement (later Prehistoric), Roundhouse (later Prehistoric). The official map says its point is accurate as follows: NGR given to the nearest 1m. The record does not by itself mean that the public may enter the place.
