What is recorded here

Ferneycastle is a possible earthwork in the Scottish Borders, perhaps no more than a natural ridge misread by human eyes. The name suggests a fortress, yet no wall, ditch or doorway has stood up to scrutiny. That gap between expectation and evidence is the interesting part: a castle may have been imagined into a hill, or a real one may have vanished so completely it became landscape again.

Scotland's National Record of the Historic Environment records Ferneycastle as Earthwork (period Unknown)(possible), Natural Feature (period Unknown)(possible). The official map says its point is accurate as follows: NGR given to the nearest 1m. The record does not by itself mean that the public may enter the place.
