This stone commemorative plaque records: Burns House Robert Burns lived in this house when he visited Jedburgh in 1787. He was waited on by the magistrates and presented with the Freedom of the Royal Burgh. Unveiled by the Provost J. S. Boyd 25th Jan 1913.
Robert Burns, a preeminent poet of the Scottish Enlightenment, is celebrated for his contributions to literature and Scottish culture; his visit to Jedburgh in 1787 highlights his significant standing, as evidenced by being granted the Freedom of the Royal Burgh.
A plaque record does not grant entry to a building or private land. View it from a public place unless permission is clearly given.
