This black commemorative plaque records: Chambers Institution. Parts of this building date from the 15th C., when it was the Dean's House of the Cross Kirk. In 1859, it was gifted to the town by William Chambers, the Publisher, and it became the meeting place of the Town Council from 1910-1975. Recorded plaque organisation: Peebles Town Council.
