Castlecraig began as a temporary Roman camp before becoming a grand classical mansion built in 1798 by the Earl of Hyndford. The estate later served as a wartime auxiliary hospital and a residential school for children with respiratory problems. It now stands as an addiction rehabilitation clinic where ancient fireplaces and marble pillars witness modern recovery.
