Castle Wood is a post Medieval whinstone quarry in the Scottish Borders, marked on the official map with a point accurate to the nearest metre. Men dug through ancient stone there, breaking the hill open for building material while the forest stood guard. The quarry may have closed, but its holes remain, holding darkness and echoing the labour of hands long gone.
