Blackadder House rose near Allanton in Berwickshire after the earlier castle fell to English destruction and Borders violence. The Home family seized the lands through forced marriage and later held the estate until the Houston line took it in the nineteenth century. World War I troops vandalised the finished house, and the owners demolished it around 1925 because repair was unaffordable. What remains is a lost address marked only by lodges, fields and the memory of a name that changed hands more than once through blood and bargain.
