What is recorded here

Castle Knowe rises beside the old Kilruskin road as a rounded mound that may have watched travellers, hosted local justice beneath its oak, or simply gathered soil into a shape people could believe. Its stones were taken elsewhere in the 1890s, its ditch was hidden when the burn was covered, and cultivation has worn it further, yet it still stands prominent enough to mark the edge of memory. The name itself keeps doing work: Knowe means a small hill, and small hills have always invited stories about castles, courts, fairies or buried time.

Scotland's National Record of the Historic Environment records Castle Knowe as Enclosure (period Unknown), Natural Feature (period Unknown). The official map says its point is accurate as follows: NGR given to the nearest 1m. The record does not by itself mean that the public may enter the place.
