FOLKLORE SITE: traditionally site of massacre of women by Essex's soldiers

What is recorded here

Marianne and I walked the rain-slicked field at Roonivoolin, where local memory says Essex's soldiers killed women. I touched the wet grass and imagined their fear, not glorifying the men but refusing to erase the women's ends. Marianne repeated their absence aloud, giving the story a shape it might have lost.
The official Northern Ireland record identifies this as FOLKLORE SITE: traditionally site of massacre of women by Essex's soldiers. Recorded period: LATE-MED; UNCERTAIN. The official map point was placed at the centre of the recorded archaeological site from the source map reference.

The monument record does not grant public access. Check the route and ask the landowner before entering private land.
