Castle Semple Loch is a 1.5-mile freshwater basin at Lochwinnoch where the River Calder once swelled until Winnoch and Kilbirnie waters merged into one vast Garnoth. Lord Sempill and later Colonel McDowal cut drains through the marsh to claim land for farming, yet the loch kept its shape and character. Today it serves as a watersports centre and bird sanctuary, while the ruined Peel Tower and Collegiate Church still watch the shore where rowing championships and curling matches once drew crowds across the green water.

Scotland's National Record of the Historic Environment records Castle Semple Loch as Cannon (period Unassigned). The official map says its point is accurate as follows: NGR given to the nearest 100m. The record does not by itself mean that the public may enter the place.
