Collins Barracks

Pair of semi-detached two-bay two-storey former officer's houses, built c.1900, with half-dormer windows to east elevation and single-storey sections to west. Now in use as offices. Hipped artificial slate roof with rendered corbelled chimneystacks and replacement rainwater goods to projecting eaves. Timber bargeboards to half-dormers. Red brick walls laid in Flemish bond with yellow brick platbands to at window head and sill level. Camber-headed window openings with rubbed yellow brick heads, stone sills and replacement uPVC windows. Camber-headed door openings with timber canopies above on carved stone corbels, rubbed yellow brick heads and replacement doors. Set within barracks complex.

A pair of former officer's houses, which is an interesting indicator of the social hierarchy at the barracks in the past, with separate accommodation provided for high ranking officers, set apart from the large scale communal accommodation. The red and yellow brick walls contrast with the stone facades of the majority of the barrack's buildings, though the symmetrical design and careful decorative detailing are typical of the complex.
