Enclosure in Rathmore (caher Par.)

Enclosure

What is recorded here

On slopes of a natural ridge running N-S along W edge of enclosure. There are subtle undulations in field. A ringfort (TS076-048----) 'Rathmore' is located c. 300m to S on crest of hill. This possible enclosure (diam. c. 60m) was identified as an incomplete, roughly circular cropmark on an aerial photographs (ASIAP (32) 6 and 7). It is conjoined with an enclosure (TS076-069----) to the N, enclosure (TS076-070001-) to the NE and a possible enclosure (TS076-070002-) to the NE. Field levelled c. 10 years ago and according to landowner the soil in this area is very black, quite different from the surrounding soil, concentrated where the larger enclosure (TS076-069----) was located. Only the E extent of the cropmark could be clearly defined, so it is not possible to establish whether this was definitely a circular enclosure or the E portion of an associated field system.
