RATH: SIMPSON'S FORT in Taughlumny

RATH: SIMPSON'S FORT

What is recorded here

Simpson's Fort in Taughlumny, County Down, is a rath, an ancient earthen stronghold dating from the early Christian period. The mound still rises above the landscape, marking a place where people lived, defended themselves and shaped the local land long before modern roads passed nearby. Its survival suggests the community valued the site enough to build, reuse and remember it across generations.
The official Northern Ireland record identifies this as RATH: SIMPSON'S FORT. Recorded period: E.CHRIST.. The official map point was placed at the centre of the recorded archaeological site from the source map reference.

The monument record does not grant public access. Check the route and ask the landowner before entering private land.
