What is recorded here

Shanes Castle Park holds a rath, an ancient fortified place marked on the official map and protected as a scheduled site. The earth may still carry the shape of hands that built it, though no name or date has survived to tell us who lived there. What is certain is that the ground itself has kept the form, waiting beside the castle for someone to notice the hidden shape beneath the grass.
