Terraced five-bay two-storey house with half-dormer attic, built 1836, on a rectangular plan possibly originally two separate three-bay (west) or two-bay (east) houses with shopfront to left ground floor. Reroofed, ----. Replacement pitched artificial slate roof with ridge tiles, rendered chimney stacks having stepped capping, and uPVC rainwater goods on rendered eaves. Fine roughcast walls on rendered plinth. Pair of square-headed door openings approached by two cut-granite steps with concealed dressings framing glazed timber panelled doors having overlights. Timber shopfront to left ground floor on a symmetrical plan. Square-headed window openings (upper floors) with cut-granite sills, and concealed dressings including timber lintels supporting red brick voussoirs framing two-over-two timber sash windows. Street fronted with concrete brick cobbled footpath to front.
A house representing an important component of the early nineteenth-century domestic built heritage of Taghmon with the architectural value of the composition suggested by such attributes as the compact rectilinear plan form; the diminishing in scale of the openings on each floor producing a graduated visual impression; and the high pitched roofline. Having been well maintained, the elementary form and massing survive intact together with substantial quantities of the historic or original fabric, both to the exterior and to the interior, including a Classically-detailed shopfront of artistic interest, thus upholding the character or integrity of a house forming part of a self-contained group alongside adjoining houses (see 15615006 - 15615007) with the resulting ensemble making a pleasing visual statement in Main Street.
