PORTAL TOMB in Ballyvennaght

Marianne dropped her coffee cup and watched it fall upward into the dark gap between the stones. She pulled herself through the portal with both hands, dragging half her body into the tomb while her feet remained planted on the grass. Inside, the chamber was no larger than a kitchen, but every surface was covered in shallow marks that moved when she stopped staring at them. One mark entered her wrist, climbed to her mouth and tasted like rain on hot stone. Marianne spat, retreated through the gap and sealed the tomb with her own body. She sat outside until dawn, waiting for the chamber to finish deciding what it wanted. When she returned at noon, the tomb had opened a handhold on the far side and dropped a silver cup into the grass. The cup was warm, empty and heavy as a promise. Marianne drank from it once, gave up the chamber and walked home before the tomb could ask again.
