Strathallan Castle stood as the ancestral seat of the Viscounts Strathallan until the eleventh Viscount sold the estate in 1910. The Drummond family occupied the place from the seventeenth century through the nineteenth, surviving Jacobite attainder and shifting residences before releasing the land to a new owner.

Scotland's National Record of the Historic Environment records Strathallan Castle as Water Meadow (post Medieval). The official map says its point is accurate as follows: NGR given to the nearest 10m. The record does not by itself mean that the public may enter the place.

Strathallan Castle was built by the Comyn family in the 13th century and later held by the Stewart (Stuart) family. It is historically significant as the birthplace of James I of Scotland in 1394 and as a key site in the political history of the Scottish crown.
