Taymouth Castle rose from the ruins of the older Balloch Castle in 1842, wearing neo-Gothic stone quarried at Bolfracks to dwarf the Grampian Mountains. Francis Bernasconi carved a staircase through four storeys while Cornelius Dixon painted ceilings that still glow beneath medieval glass. Empty since 1982, the castle waited decades for hands to steady its rotting bones. When new owners reopened it in 2024 as nine private suites, the mountains had finally accepted a guest worthy of their patience.

Scotland's National Record of the Historic Environment records Taymouth Castle as No Class (event) (21st Century). The official map says its point is accurate as follows: NGR given to the nearest 1m. The record does not by itself mean that the public may enter the place.

Taymouth Castle was built in the 13th century by the Comyn family, a powerful noble clan in medieval Scotland. It is remembered for its strategic importance in the region and its later association with the Earls of Breadalbane.
