Balmanno Castle stands in Dron, Perth and Kinross, as a stone tower house built between 1570 and 1580 for George Auchinleck. Sir Robert Lorimer transformed it in 1915 into a courtyard residence for William Millar, filling it with careful Gothic detail and expensive furniture. The partially watered moat still circles the grounds, preserving the strange boundary between a medieval defence and a polished summer home.
