What is recorded here
Scone Palace stands in Perth and Kinross as a nineteenth-century country house built beside the remains of a medieval palace, yet unknown human bones still lie buried near its foundations. The new bricks and gardens may have hidden rather than healed the older site, forcing living people to walk above dead ones they could not name. That is the true oddity of the place: grandeur did not remove the earlier death, it learned to decorate around it.
Scotland's National Record of the Historic Environment records Scone Palace as Country House (19th Century), Human Remains(s) (period Unknown), Palace (medieval). The official map says its point is accurate as follows: NGR given to the nearest 1m. The record does not by itself mean that the public may enter the place.
Scone Palace was originally a medieval royal palace associated with the coronation of Scottish kings, later rebuilt as a country house in the 19th century. It is historically important as the traditional site of the Stone of Destiny, used in the coronation of Scottish monarchs.
The historic-place record does not grant public access. Check current conditions and ownership before entering land or a building.
