Linked to Saint Maveona, the church and surrounding area are traditionally associated with healing rituals and pilgrimages, particularly for ailments of the eyes and skin. Local folklore suggests that the saint was a 6th-century Irish missionary who founded a monastic site there, with holy wells nearby believed to hold curative powers.
