What is recorded here

Castlehill in Perth and Kinross layered a nineteenth-century quarry, gas works and reservoir beneath a twentieth-century embankment, making the ground a palimpsest of local industry. People may have rowed past dark water, hauled stone or tended flames before the embankment redirected the area into a boundary and benchmark. The site still carries that practical rhythm: measurement, extraction, storage and control, all written into soil rather than displayed on a sign.

Scotland's National Record of the Historic Environment records Castlehill as Bench Mark (period Unknown), Boundary Wall(s) (19th Century), Embankment (20th Century), Gas Works (19th Century), Landscape (19th Century), Quarry (19th Century), Reservoir (19th Century). The official map says its point is accurate as follows: NGR given to the nearest 10m. The record does not by itself mean that the public may enter the place.
