Tullibardine Castle anchored the Murray family in Perth and Kinross from the late 13th century, hosting Mary, Queen of Scots, Regent Morton, and James VI. The king danced in a Venetian masque there with his valet while wearing pink taffeta and carnival masks. A hawthorn hedge once traced the ship Great Michael near the ruins, preserving a royal memory in living wood.
