Dupplin Castle stood above Strath Earn from the late 13th century until 1967, surviving the 1332 battle, a 1461 destruction, an 1827 fire and a 1934 interior fire before demolition. William Burn rebuilt it as a grand country house in the 1820s, and Sir John Dewar owned it until the end. Its repeated losses and recoveries make it sound less like a building and more like a place that kept refusing to leave the valley.

Dupplin Castle was originally built in the 15th century by the Comyn family, a powerful noble clan in medieval Scotland. It is historically significant as the site of the Battle of Dupplin Moor in 1332, a key event in the Second War of Scottish Independence.
