Aghantaraghan held a penal site and burial thorn during the post-medieval and eighteenth-century periods. The land remembers chains and graves, while the thorn still marks the edge of that old suffering. People may have dragged feet across this soil or buried their dead beneath it. The place keeps both facts and wounds without asking permission to be forgotten.
