What is recorded here

In rough wet pasture, in SE corner of a field. Depicted on the 1897 ed. OS 25-inch map as a semicircular-shaped earthwork, not indicated on the 1840 ed. OS 6-inch map. Surveyed by the ASI in 2008 and described as a D-shaped area (15.5m NNW-SSE) with straight side at SE (L 23m ENE-WSW) defined by a scarp and fosse truncated at SSE by a field boundary running ENE-WSW. The scarp (H 0.7m; Wth 1.3m) is visible from WSW-N-ENE. The remains of a fosse (overall Wth 5m; basal Wth 1.7m; D 0.2m) are visible from W-NNW. The interior is grass covered and undulating. A subtriangular-shaped area adjoins the scarp at NW and is defined by linear bank (L 12m; Wth 2.7m; int. H 0.1m; ext. H 0.3m) running WNW-ESE, to S and with a short return (L 8m) running NNE-SSW, to E. Monument visible as a semicircular-shaped earthwork on Digital Globe orthophotos taken 2011-13 and on Google Earth orthoimages taken 28/06/2018. See attached sketch plan and cross-sections surveyed and drawn by the ASI. See attached Google Earth orthoimages Compiled by: Alison McQueen and Vera Rahilly Date of upload: 17 July 2020
