This blue commemorative plaque records: Here at the Iffley Road Track the first sub-four minute mile was run on 6th May 1954 by Roger Bannister Recorded plaque organisation: Oxfordshire Blue Plaques Board, University of Oxford.
Sir Roger Bannister, a neurologist and former amateur athlete, became the first person to run a mile in under four minutes, achieving this feat on May 6, 1954, at Iffley Road Track; his accomplishment was a significant milestone in athletics and inspired future generations of runners.
