Burying Ground

Children's burial ground

What is recorded here

Burying Ground in County Mayo, Ireland is a children's burial ground where small lives ended before they could be remembered. The fact it exists at all means someone marked the difference between infant death and adult death, perhaps because children were buried apart, watched over differently, or believed they needed a place free from the weight of adult sins. That much is missing, but the name preserves the shape of the loss: a whole ground given to the smallest people, not a single child hidden in a crowded field.
