Why this person mattered

Charles Darwin was a pioneering naturalist and biologist whose theory of evolution by natural selection, presented in "On the Origin of Species," fundamentally transformed scientific understanding of the diversity of life. The plaque marks his passage through Falmouth during his return from the voyage of the Beagle, which provided crucial evidence for his revolutionary ideas.
