The public map records this plaque for Gloucester Lock. Its recorded inscription reads: PORT OF GLOUCESTER GLOUCESTER LOCK. ORIGINALLY THERE WERE TWO ADJOINING LOCKS WHICH WERE BROUGHT INTO OPERATION IN 1812 TO ALLOW LIMITED USE OF THE DOCK BASIN. AFTER THE CANAL WAS COMPLETED IN 1827, THE LOCKS WERE KEPT BUSY WITH BOATS CARRYING IMPO
