This pit tub was erected in 1986 to mark the site of The Crofton Mill Pit. The Colliery, which was sunk in 1885, employed 952 men at its peak and produced up to 366000 tonnes yearly. The Colliery closed in 1963 and the area was reclaimed by NCC in 1978.
