Why this matters

Covenanters led by David Leslie defeated Royalist forces under James Graham, 1st Marquis of Montrose on 15 August 1645 near Kilsyth, Scotland. The victory halted Montrose's campaign in the north and marked a turning point in the Wars of the Three Kingdoms, strengthening Covenanter control in Scotland.
