Scotland's National Record of the Historic Environment records Bay of Skaill as Long Cist (viking), Animal Remains (viking), Comb (bone)(viking), Spearhead (viking). The official map says its point is accurate as follows: NGR given to the nearest 10m. The record does not by itself mean that the public may enter the place.
Viking burial and artifact site, dating to the early medieval period (9th–11th century AD). The Bay of Skaill is significant as the location of the discovery of the *Heart of Neolithic Orkney* sites, including Skara Brae, revealed by a storm in 1850.
