Scotland's National Record of the Historic Environment records Gairsay as Cairn (period Unassigned), Cist (period Unassigned). The official map says its point is accurate as follows: NGR given to the nearest 10m. The record does not by itself mean that the public may enter the place.

Neolithic cairn and cist; dating to the Early to Middle Neolithic period (c. 3500–2500 BCE). The site is significant as part of the broader funerary and ritual landscape of Orkney, reflecting early communal burial practices and stone monument construction in northern Scotland.
